Athletics

ANCS students in grades 6-8 may participate in school athletics through ANCS’s involvement in the LukeSports program, an inter-charter school league (students in fifth grade in the elementary campus may participate in certain sports, such as soccer). This program includes co-educational flag football and soccer, girl’s basketball and boy’s basketball, and cheerleading. Each sport is focused on a commitment to age-appropriate coaching and competition, individual and team goals, fair and healthy play, and respect for participants and the sport itself.

Participating students must provide ANCS with a current copy of a sports physical from their physician and pay an athletics fee prior to beginning practice. Students will remain eligible to participate in the athletics program provided they have no major discipline infractions and are making satisfactory academic progress. If a student misses school on the day of a game, he or she will not be able to play in the game. ANCS team uniforms are provided as a part of the athletics fee. 

ANCS uses school staff and/or parent volunteers to serve as coaches for each team. As well, parent volunteers are often needed for different activities.  We currently have fulfilled the positions for Basketball coaches for the 2011-2012 Season.

========== Update week 1/9 – 1/13 ==========

Hello parents,

Here is an outline of our week. We would like to have 3 practices this week, our regular tuesday and wednesday practices with an additional thursday practice that we have arranged to scrimmage another team.
 
Tuesday’s practice will be at the First Iconium Baptist church on Moreland and Glenwood from 4-7pm and you can pick your athlete up at the church that evening.
 
Wednesday’s practice will be here at the school from 2:30-5:30pm
 
For Thursday’s practice we have arranged a scrimmage against the Godby Road Rec Center basketball team. We will be using their gym which is located at the Godby Road Community Center on 2300 Godby Road in College Park . We first will practice here at the school following dismissal and depart around 5p planning to return to the school for pickup between 7-7:15p. We will be providing transportation to the scrimmage and back to our school, so pickup will still happen at ANCS.
 
Please let me know if the additional thursday practice will pose a problem or if your athlete will be unavailable.
