Design Teacher (Grades 6-8)

Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School (ANCS) is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic teacher of MYP Digital and Product Design who facilitates student engagement in problem solving and critical thinking via the Design Cycle. “MYP uses the Design Cycle as a way to structure:

  • inquiry and analysis of design problems
  • development and creation of feasible solutions
  • testing and evaluation of students’ models, prototypes, products and/or systems.

Teachers with various backgrounds can teach this course. For example, in the past we’ve hired teachers with backgrounds in Science, Math, Social Studies, Language and Literature, and Visual Art, and they have all put their own individual stamps on the course.

As part of the Middle Years Programme (MYP), Design challenges all students to:

  • apply practical and creative thinking skills to solve design problems
  • explore the role of design in both historical and contemporary contexts
  • consider their responsibilities when making design decisions and taking action.

MYP Design focuses on a holistic design process rather than final products and solutions.” While providing an inquiry-based environment, candidates should also see the value in building positive relationships with students and have strong skills of collaboration and communication with all stakeholders.
