Instructional Coach (Grades K-2)

The curriculum and teaching practices at Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School place students at the center of their learning in a hands-on way, actively engaged in exploring questions and coached by their teachers towards the demonstration of mastery of higher-order concepts and skills. The curriculum does not rely on textbooks – it is driven instead by rich and interesting projects and learning experiences that help students to show understanding and develop meaningful skills. We have 628 total students, 394 of whom are in the elementary grades.

The position of Instructional Coach (Grades K-2) at the Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School (ANCS) involves the following primary responsibilities:

  • Build an empowered and inclusive community of students, parents, and educators;
  • Help students to know themselves and to be known well by their community;
  • Engage the whole child—intellectually, social-emotionally, and physically;
  • Challenge each student to take an active role as an informed citizen in a global society;
  • Set goals and priorities for the assigned grades, collect and manage data associated with those goals;
  • Establish professional development plan for teachers based on student data;
  • Design and implement educational program evaluations;
  • Oversee instructional support for teachers in assigned grades;
    • Research and respond to the needs of teachers in those grade levels
    • Coordinate learning opportunities that address the needs of the teachers (self-study, small groups, professional development, etc.)
    • Coordinate outside support/professional development when necessary
  • Assist teachers in their understanding and proficiency in the school’s overall pedagogical approach and curriculum, including Understanding by Design, Culturally Responsive Teaching, Conscious Discipline and other key principles;
  • Enhance/strengthen parent understanding of the school’s approach to curriculum, instruction, and assessment;
  • Guide the analysis of data related to educational outcomes;
  • Model lessons in classrooms;
  • Serve as the initial point person for questions related to the educational program in assigned grades;
  • Participate on the campus leadership team;
  • Engage in continuous and germane professional development;
  • Attend and participate in all faculty and school related meetings;
  • Work flexible hours as needed to complete professional responsibility;
  • Handle additional duties assigned by K-8 or campus leadership.

Education and Qualifications:

The Instructional Coach must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field and hold a valid state teaching certification (e.g., Georgia PSC certification). A Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or Educational Leadership is strongly preferred.

Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of successful classroom teaching experience with a demonstrated record of improving student achievement; experience in curriculum development, lesson planning, differentiated instruction, data analysis and providing and following up on feedback is essential.
