ESS 1-1 Associate Teacher (Grades 6-8)
Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School’s (ANCS) Middle Campus is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering the Middle Years Programme (MYP). World Schools share a common philosophy – a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that ANCS believes is important for our middle grades students. Our students take classes in eight academic subject areas that focus on conceptual understanding and essential skills. These eight subject areas are: Arts, Design, Health and Physical Education, Individuals and Societies, Language and Literature, Spanish Language Acquisition, Mathematics, and Sciences.
Position Responsibilities:
A significant component of this position involves serving as a dedicated 1-1 aide for an assigned student with an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The associate will ensure the student receives continuous, high-quality intervention across school settings for approximately half of the instructional day. The position of ESS 1-1 Associate Teacher (Grades 6-8) involves the following primary responsibilities:
- Review, understand, and consistently implement the specific accommodations and goals detailed within the student’s IEP document.
- Deliver tailored, real-time academic scaffolding, clarifying instructional prompts, breaking down complex assignments into manageable steps, and reinforcing concepts introduced by the Lead Teacher.
- Apply behavioral interventions and supports as specified in the student’s Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). Promote self-regulation techniques and focus strategies.
- Maintain daily objective data logs detailing student behavioral tracking metrics, academic progress indicators, and accommodation efficacy as directed by special education case manager.
- Support the student during structured and unstructured social interactions (e.g., group projects, recess, lunch) to cultivate appropriate peer relationships, communication skills, and school belonging.
When not working with the student, other supports may include:
- Operational duties including recess duty, lunch duty, dismissal, after school support, etc.
- Serving as a substitute lead teacher elsewhere in the building on an as-needed basis
- In School Suspension supervision
- Work collaboratively with a diverse group of school colleagues, parents, community members and others to support and implement the goals of the school
- Participate fully in faculty and school-related meetings
- Work flexible hours as needed
Reports to:
Directly to Middle Campus Principal
Education/Certification:
- Minimum of a high school diploma required
Qualifications and Experience:
The experience and qualifications preferred for this position include:
- Experience working with elementary and/or middle school-aged students
- Experience supporting students with a variety of needs preferred
- Ability to collaborate well with other teachers
- Demonstrated effectiveness in working with diverse groups of students, teachers, and families
