Hilary Smith

Associate Teacher

Hilary Smith joined ANCS in 2026 and brings a unique combination of experience in education, agriculture, and community building to the school. She is passionate about creating engaging, student-centered learning environments where students feel empowered to grow academically, socially, and personally.

Ms. Smith earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish, with a concentration in Literature, and Women’s Studies from Georgia State University. She also completed Georgia State University’s World Language Teacher Certification Program and earned a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification while studying in Costa Rica. Most recently, she completed the University of Georgia Extension’s Journeyman Farmer Certificate Program in Small Ruminant Production.

Before returning to ANCS, Ms. Smith managed the daily operations of a small-scale farm, overseeing livestock care, pasture management, vendor coordination, and farm projects. She previously taught Spanish at ANCS from 2017 to 2022, where she developed and delivered differentiated International Baccalaureate (IB) language acquisition lessons for middle school students. During her time at ANCS, she also served as an Equity Critical Friendship Coach, facilitating professional learning focused on equity-centered teaching practices. Earlier in her career, she taught Spanish, English Language Arts, and Social Studies in Georgia and Costa Rica, working with students in a variety of educational settings.

Outside of school, Ms. Smith enjoys working with animals, spending time outdoors, and continuing to learn about sustainable agriculture. She is fluent in Spanish and is passionate about connecting people, cultures, and communities through education.
