EC Principal Letter
Dear ANCS Elementary Families,
I hope you all enjoyed your spring break and are coming back to school feeling rested and ready to thrive in the last six weeks of this school year.
I am thrilled to announce that Ms. Veleta Greer will be the new Assistant Principal here at the elementary campus next year. Ms. Greer has been working at ANCS for the past 21 years. She started as a classroom teacher and has been our K-2 instructional coach for the past 11 years. Ms. Greer has a deep knowledge of and passion for elementary education and continues to push herself and all of us to learn and grow to become better educators. I have full confidence that Veleta will continue to use her talents and strengths to be an amazing assistant principal and that she and Ms. King will make a dynamic leadership partnership! Ms. Greer calls dismissal numbers Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, so stop by to say hello if you have time. Congratulations, Veleta!
Spring is a busy time here at school with portfolio shares, field day, class celebrations, end-of-year projects, etc. Please also be aware that our third, fourth and fifth graders will be engaged in taking the Milestones state assessment from April 27th to May 15th. Even though it is only the upper grades testing, Milestones impacts the whole school, as we must cover instructional materials and displays around the building and we will have an adjusted related arts schedule. Please note that there are no visitors allowed in the building during testing, even in the lower grades. Families are still welcome to join us for morning meetings. However, once the meeting is over, guests need to exit the building so testing can get underway.
For those students who are testing, please encourage them to get a good night’s sleep and please get them to school on time. Testing begins right after morning meeting and once a testing session is underway, nobody can be admitted to the classroom. Getting your child to school and having him/her/them here on time is important. Thank you for helping us with this. Additionally, we want students to take a breath and not stress about this test. They are prepared, and getting stressed out is not helpful.
As always, I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Have a wonderful remainder of your week.
Wishing you well,
Lara
