EC Principal Letter

Dear ANCS Elementary Families,

I hope you all enjoyed your February break. I feel fortunate to have had mild weather here in Atlanta so I could spend a lot of time outside.

On the Thursday before our break, we held our interview day here at the EC. We had 15 amazing candidates come to school and spend the morning with us. I always feel very fortunate to have such qualified and talented teacher candidates interested in working here with us. I also feel fortunate to have very little turnover each year, so this leaves us with very few positions open. This year we have one position open that has not been open for the past 19 years, and that is our art teacher position. Yes, Carol Keller is retiring from ANCS after this year. She is ready to move on to new adventures and we are so happy for her! We will be celebrating Carol as the end of the year draws closer, but I wanted you all to know this news.

This week’s focus for Black History Month (and leading into Women’s History Month) is Black women. Students will be learning more about the impact that black women have had throughout history. We are also excited that we will be having a school-wide assembly on Friday morning. During this assembly, we will celebrate all that we have learned over the course of this month to honor all the contributions of Black Americans. We will have students acting in a play that highlights several inspirational Black leaders, students reciting a poem that they wrote about Martin Luther King, Jr. and students performing an original dance number. We are all looking forward to this special morning together.

Just a friendly reminder that our second round of parent-teacher conferences began on February 20th and runs through March 20th. Please make sure you have signed up for a time to meet with your child’s teachers. Conferences are an important part of our reporting system. If the times provided are challenging for you, please reach out to the teachers as soon as possible so you can work together to find a time to discuss your child’s progress.

As always, I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

I am wishing you well,

Lara
