EC Principal Letter
Dear ANCS Elementary Families,
October is an exciting month for us here at the elementary campus! The building is buzzing about Grandparents and Special Friends Day and our Instructional Technology Specialist, Ms. Rogers, is gearing up for Digital Citizenship month. Ms. Rogers and I have been meeting to discuss the ways in which we plan to engage students and staff in some great learning in the area of digital literacy from AI literacy to online safety and the benefits of technology integration. You can collaborate with us on this work by learning about ways to keep your child safe while online as well as deepening your understanding of the importance of students developing their technology skills. The state of Georgia has even rallied to support these efforts by offering Parent Protech free of charge to all educators and families in the state of Georgia. Parent ProTech Offers: training on how to implement parental measures and controls, digital citizenship lessons and videos, tools to monitor and manage your child’s digital activity, guidance for talking to your child about online safety, as well as many other resources. You can use this link to sign up for a free Parent Protech account.
Grandparents and Special Friends Day that will be taking place at both campuses next Friday, October 9th. The elementary campus will host our grandparents and special friends from 8:30-11:30a. This time includes registration and classroom visits depending on the student’s grade level. Please see the schedule below for more details. This is certainly one of my favorite ANCS events as it is another opportunity for me to think about the very special relationship that I had with my grandfather, which still has a positive impact on me today. The students cannot wait to showcase their learning experiences and share all about what makes ANCS so unique. As a reminder, we work hard to ensure that each student has a guest. Please make sure that you have RSVP’d for your guest here. If your child is unable to have a grandparent or special friend attend this event, please let your child’s teachers know as soon as possible. There are several staff members who are eager to step in and serve as a special friend. Due to overcrowding, parents are not allowed to serve as their child’s special friend. Additionally, each year, we have had many students leave with their grandparent or special guest after the day’s festivities are over. If you want your child to leave early, please let the classroom teachers know ahead of time. We will not allow a child to leave with someone else without your permission. The classroom teachers will have a sign-out sheet in their rooms so please be sure to remind all grandparents and special guests attending the event to sign students out if they are planning to take them home early.
Schedule:
- 8:30–9:00 am: Grades K, 1st, & 2nd – Registration & Refreshments
- 9:00–9:30 am: Grades K, 1st, & 2nd – Principal’s Welcome & Chorus Performance (all chorus members)
