Dear ANCS Elementary Families,
I hope you all enjoyed your February break and remain healthy and happy!
Online registration for next school year started January 1st and is open until March 1st at noon. If you have an incoming sibling for next year, you do need to complete an application by the deadline. You can always feel free to reach out to Kelly Dennis if you have any questions about the application or enrollment process. If you know of families who are interested in ANCS, please let them know that we are accepting applications until March 1st.
February is Black History Month and as I mentioned in an earlier courier, this is our week for a daily theme. Each day this week students, staff and hopefully you will join together to celebrate Black history in various ways. Here is what is happening each day (but it’s never too late to do any of these).
Monday – Celebrate Black Art: Research Black artists and try to recreate some of their work.
Tuesday – Celebrate Black Music: Listen to music by Black musicians and try to create a dance or write your own song.
Wednesday – Celebrate Black Authors: Read or listen to a story written by a Black author.
Thursday – Celebrate Black Schools: Learn about historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and/or wear your favorite HBCU attire.
Friday – Black Out Day: Wear all black to show solidarity with the many pioneers who have and continue to contribute to Black history.
Our second round of parent-teacher conferences begins Monday, March 8th and runs through April 2nd. You will soon be receiving communication from your child’s teachers about times available for meeting with them. Please make sure you sign up for a time. Conferences are an important part of our reporting system. If the times provided are challenging for you, please reach out to the teachers as soon as possible so you can work together to find a time to discuss your child’s progress.
As we are gearing up for these conferences, please keep in mind our guidelines for effective family/school partnerships. You can find a lot of information regarding these partnerships on the ANCS website. We spent a lot of time working with and receiving feedback from families and teachers to create how effective partnerships are supported by our school’s Guiding Principles. If you scroll about half way down the family partnerships page, you will find some helpful tips and expectations for all of us to follow. Just click on each Guiding Principle to read more.
I hope you have a wonderful remainder of your week and as always, I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
