Elementary Principal Letter

Dear ANCS Elementary Families,

It has been exciting to see new faces in the building this week. With most of our teachers back and many more students attending in person, the school has just felt more alive and full of positive energy. We are looking forward to seeing all our cohort 2 (Temple of Zoom) kiddos next week!

I can’t believe we are already in the home stretch of this school year. We only have five and a half weeks left and they are going to be busy ones! We have a lot going on as we are closing out the year. Please see below for a weekly glance for the rest of this school year.

Week of April 26th

Students in K-5th grades will be taking MAP. Cohort two students will be in person and cohort one will be taking MAP virtually. Students will take reading on Monday and math on Tuesday. Thursday and Friday will be used for make-ups or any extra time for students who may need it. If your child is taking MAP at home or with a POD teacher, please let him/her work independently, with the exception of any technology support that is needed. Students should not know every answer on the test and it is appropriate and expected for them to struggle a little bit as the test is adaptive and will adjust in difficulty as students work through it. Look for more specific details from you child’s classroom teachers regarding times and the schedule for those days.

Week of May 3rd

Cohort 1 students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will be taking the Milestones assessment. Students in cohort 2 will be expected to complete asynchronous work and to join their class meeting each morning. If you are a cohort one parent and you opted your child out of taking Milestones for this spring, your child will remain virtual this week and complete the asynchronous work that will be assigned.

Week of May 10th

Cohort 2 students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will be taking the Milestones assessment. Students in cohort 1 will be expected to complete asynchronous work and to join their class meeting each morning. If you are a cohort two parent and you opted your child out of taking Milestones for this spring, your child will remain virtual this week and complete the asynchronous work that will be assigned.

Week of May 17th

We have our monthly Board meeting on the 17th at 6:30 PM. The 17th and 18th are Milestones make-up days.

Week of May 24th

It’s the last week of school! We have fun celebrations planned for our students. We have an extra special celebration planned for just our fifth graders & their families on Monday evening. The 28th is our last day of school and we will have an early dismissal at 11:30 for all students. I will send more information about what pick up will look like that afternoon, but there really shouldn’t be too many changes. There is no after school program on the last day of school.

I know that is a lot of information and as the weeks pass you will receive more details from your child’s classroom teachers. Please make sure you read all newsletters and emails from the teachers carefully over the next several weeks.

As always, I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Thank you for all you do to support our school each day!
