Elementary Principal Letter

Dear ANCS Elementary Families,

I hope you are having a great week so far. We are really busy here at the EC. Now that we have spent time reviewing and teaching all our Guiding Principles, setting expectations and setting up routines and procedures, students are immersed in the academic curriculum and learning so much already!

You may have noticed that we started this morning by kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month during arrival. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in the United States from September 15th-October 15th. We have other fun things planned that are filled with learning opportunities and celebrations throughout the month. For example, we are bringing back the Spanish word of the week and Chef is planning a special menu and will teach our students about it during an upcoming morning meeting. You can learn more about Hispanic Heritage Month and what you can do at home to expand your child’s learning here.

I hope you have had time to sign up for your conference with your child’s teachers.

If you have not signed up for a conference time yet, please do so as soon as possible. The purpose of the conference is to place student growth at the center of the discussion. At the conference, teachers will discuss a student’s academic behaviors and his/her social interactions with peers within the class family. Additionally, they will discuss MAP performance and growth targets against national norms and year-end benchmarks.

Research indicates that while progress reports and report cards are designed to define the student’s progress and provide information about the skill that he/she has or has not acquired, grades are often not detailed enough to give parents or the student a thorough understanding of what they have actually learned or how to improve specific academic skills or social areas. Parent–teacher conferences are a central component of our reporting system and our ongoing commitment to family involvement within ANCS.

As always, I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Have a wonderful remainder of your week!
