Elementary Principal Letter

Dear ANCS Elementary Families,

I hope you all are enjoying this cooler weather and what finally feels like fall! Please label your child’s jackets, sweaters, water bottles and lunch boxes. This will help us get these items back to them if they are left on the recess field or anywhere else in the school. Thanks!

The line of cars at arrival is getting longer and longer between 7:55 and 8:00 on Tuesday-Friday mornings. Mrs. King and I cannot get to all the car doors in that short period of time and more and more students are arriving to their classrooms late. Please help us by pulling up to school earlier in the window of time. Remember, kindergarten, first and second grade arrival window is between 7:30 and 7:40, families that have students across the grade bands arrive between 7:40 and 7:50 and students in third, fourth and fifth grades arrive between 7:50 and 8:00. If you child eats breakfast at school, he/she should arrive anytime before 7:50, as breakfast service stops at 7:55. If you arrive at school after 8:00, you will need to walk your child into the building and sign him/her in at the front desk.

Additionally and unfortunately, we have had a low participation rate in completing the daily health screener in SchoolDoc each day. This also contributes to students getting into the building more slowly because we have to stop all students who do not have a completed screener and take their temperature. I understand that mornings can be hectic, but please add completing the screener to your daily routine.

Reminder about our Parent University:  Digital Citizenship Parent Edition

Please join Ms. Rogers, Instructional Technology Specialist, and Ms. Tottenham, School Counselor, on October 28th, 6:00 pm- 7:00 pm, for an interactive night of learning via Zoom! The topic will be Digital Citizenship. We will discuss what we are doing with students for digital citizenship month, keeping kids safe online, and sharing many parent resources to support your digital learner! We hope to see you there!

A STEM event available to you through Georgia Tech

Are you interested in participating in an outreach event on Saturday, November 6 from 11 AM – 2 PM? It is hosted by the Georgia Tech Society of Women Engineers. Your child will be able to go to Georgia Tech’s campus to perform exciting STEM activities and experiments with a host of volunteers. The event also comes with lunch! Here is the link to the interest form, which is non-binding for now: https://tinyurl.com/gtswe1106

Finally, Halloween is quickly approaching and the excitement that comes with it is too. We do not have costume day or Halloween parties at school, so please refrain from sending your child to school in a costume. Also, please do not send candy to school. Thank you for helping us with this!

Thank you for all your continued support of our school. As always, please reach out with any questions.

Take care,

Lara
