Dear ANCS Families and Friends,
Believe it or not, it’s officially fall. Hopefully the weather will soon begin to cool off and it starts to feel more like fall, too. To prepare for that, it would be super helpful if you could go ahead and start labeling your child’s jackets and sweaters. We actually already have items in our lost and found (mostly water bottles and lunch boxes) and are hoping to not end up with the giant mound we have had in the past. Please take some time to write your child’s name on his/her belongings so we can return them if they are misplaced.
By this time you should have had the opportunity to sign up for a conference time with your child’s teachers. In addition to parent-teacher conferences, we have a lot more happening here in October. Please take a few minutes to get these dates on your calendar.
Saturday, October 5th: For the fifth year in a row (thanks to Marta Leo and Cathy McWhorter), we are participating in the Cardboard Challenge from 12:00 to 3:00 in Rosswurm Hall at the EC. Students and parents work together to create whatever their imagination desires out of cardboard. It’s a whole lot of fun and the students are excited about it. Hope to see you there.
Wednesday, October 9th: Join us for an informational discussion about Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) led by our school psychologist, Nancy Lamb. We will gather in the cafeteria right after morning meeting. You will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of why we use MAP at ANCS, how to read your child’s MAP score and get a sense of how we are utilizing MAP to inform our instruction.
October 11th – 15th: Fall Break! Teachers will enjoy a workday on the 15th. We will begin our day working in Critical Friendship as a full K-8 faculty and staff, have committee meetings and then finish up all remaining conferences with families.
Friday, October 18th: Grandparents and Special Friends Day is a tradition here at ANCS and is an exciting day of sharing our learning. This day is intended to be for a special guest, other than a child’s parent, to visit our school and spend time in the student’s classroom. Students share work that they have completed so far this year and enjoy learning from their special friend, too. We work hard to make sure that each child has a special friend, so please let your child’s teacher know if we can be of any assistance making sure your child has a special friend. It is scheduled from 8:15 to 11:45 at the EC. Please be on the lookout for more information coming soon.
Saturday, October 19th: Please join us from 9:00 to 12:00 at the ANCS Farm (at the MC) to work in our garden! Please bring water to drink and gloves to wear. Middle Campus students welcome, Elementary Campus students welcome with a parent or guardian, parents always welcome. Please join us!
Thursday, October 31st: Yes, it’s Halloween! Just a quick reminder that students may not wear their costumes to school, nor bring Halloween candy. Please support us with this at home. We know students will be excited about the events of the evening, but we do try to keep school as calm as possible.
Have a wonderful rest of your week and please let us know if you have any questions.
