Letter from Cathey Goodgame – January 8, 2020

Dear ANCS Families,

I hope 2020 is off to a great start for each of you! I want to begin with a big thank you to everyone who donated to our Holiday Helpers and Midtown Assistance Center (MAC) drives in December. We don’t have the numbers back from MAC yet but we do know that we were able to support 28 kids, ages 2 to 17, through our Holiday Helpers. The families who benefited from your support were truly grateful so please know that your kindness is appreciated. We hope to continue supporting families throughout the year, especially as we approach breaks from school, so please reach out to Santina Cambor or 678-904-0051, if you would like to help us by providing grocery gift cards and other donations to support families during breaks and over the summer.

As we enter the second semester of the school year, teachers are putting the final touches on achievement levels, Commitment to Guiding Principles scores, and a narrative feedback for the Semester Progress Reports. Those reports will be available to students first during Advisory next Thursday, then to families later that same day. Please be sure to check out next week’s letter for more details about what you will see in these reports.

The annual ANCS Spelling Bee is being held this Thursday at 4:15 pm in the Media Center. In connection with this Bee, we had a faculty and staff Bee during the last Morning Meeting in December and the winner was Chef Bradley! Be sure to congratulate him when you see him and come out to support the student spellers on Thursday.

Basketball season is in full swing and the teams have get back to it on Saturday morning after a long break.  Saturdays games will be at CSK/BEST, girls at 10:00 am and boys immediately after. You can find information about all of the games on the school calendar.

Finally, please take a few minutes to complete the Georgia school climate survey for parents.
In addition to our own internal feedback surveys, the state of Georgia also administers a couple of annual surveys of students, teachers/staff, and parents/caregivers. One of these surveys is the Georgia “school climate survey”. This survey is used in conjunction with other data to assign each school in the state a “school climate star rating”. You can read more about the surveys and the climate star rating on the Georgia Department of Education website. We ask that you please take a few minutes to complete the parent survey for ANCS between now and February 28th. Click here to access survey.

Wishing you well,

Cathey
