Letter from Cathey Goodgame – January 9, 2019

Dear ANCS Families and Friends,

During the Morning Meeting just before Winter Break we all enjoyed a spirited competition during the Faculty/Staff Spelling Bee, organized by Ms. Linahan. The spellers were Ms. Afzal, Chef Bradley, Ms. Griffin, Ms. Hearn, Chef Lupo, Mr. Sanders, Ms. Smith, Mr. Underwood and. Ms. Wood. We ran out of time so we rolled out a really tough final round that eliminated all of them, resulting in no ultimate winner but it was certainly fun to watch! We hope the bravery of these volunteers inspired lots of students to participate in the annual ANCS Spelling Bee tomorrow. The Bee is open to students in grades 4 through 8 and will take place tomorrow, Thursday, January 10, at 4:15 in the Middle Campus Media Center. Good luck to all of the spellers!

During the December Board meeting the ANCS Calendar for the 2019-20 was approved and can be found here. We appreciate the feedback from everyone who participated in the survey process. Two of the important things that came out of the process were to ensure that student learning was supported with necessary breaks and to stay as close to the APS calendar as possible. We believe that this calendar accomplishes both and is a good compromise between the current one and the APS calendar for 2019-20. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have.

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost time to begin planning for enrollment for the 2019-20 school year. The application window for new students interested in attending ANCS will be from February 1 through March 1 and the lottery will be held on Thursday, March 21. This application window also applies for current families who have siblings you would like to enroll for next year. Information sessions for the Middle Campus will be held on Saturday, February 9, 9:00-10:30am and Tuesday, February 12, 6:30-8:00pm. There will be optional student-led tours starting 30 minutes before each session. There will be more reminders in the coming weeks but, for now, please spread the word about these dates to any interested families.

Finally, the Basketball Wolves resume play this Friday with games against Genesis Innovation Academy. The girls will tip off at 5:00 and the boys will play immediately after, probably around 6:15. Both games will be played at Crim High School and admission is $6 for adults and $3 for students. Go Wolves!

Wishing you well,
