Letter from Cathey Goodgame – May 15, 2019

ANCS Families and Friends,

By the end of the day today we’ll be finished with what has felt like the longest Milestones testing window in history. I actually like that the window started a little later in the year so the students have more class time prior to testing. Over the course of testing this year, many people have asked why we staggered the window this way. It’s important to know that state testing is one of the areas for which we must follow Atlanta Public Schools. We are provided with a schedule from APS early in the school year and we are not allowed to deviate from it at all. Mark Sanders and Kristin Lee, our testing coordinators, along with all of the teachers and staff do a great job managing all of the moving parts around having some students testing and some students in class on different days over a two week period. Thank you to all of the MC teachers and staff for this and for so many other things!

Now that testing is done it’s time to turn our attention to 6th and 7th Grade Exhibitions. The 8th graders did their exhibitions before testing so they could enjoy this week in Washington, DC. The 6th and 7th graders will give their presentations tomorrow through Tuesday, May 21. Hopefully, families of 6th and 7th graders have heard from your child’s advisor about a time slot. Please reach out to him/her if you have not been contacted.

Finally, I can’t believe the last week of school is upon us next week. We have a busy week ahead of us and I want to be sure you have all of the information you need:

Monday, May 20: 8th grade Celebration rehearsal (8:30am) at the MC. Eighth grade families – please don’t let your kids sleep in after the DC trip. We need them at school on time!

Monday, May 20 and Tuesday, May 21: 6th and 7th Grade Exhibitions continue

Wednesday, May 22: Regular school day – Last day of classes and last Morning Meeting.

Thursday, May 23: Talent Show, Yearbook signing, and Extended Advisory. After Care closes early (5:30 pm). 8th Grade Celebration, 7:30 pm at MJHS Auditorium. 8th graders should arrive at 6:45 pm.

Friday, May 24: Field Day and last day of school – Noon dismissal (No After Care).

Wishing you well,

Cathey
