Dear ANCS Families and Friends,
I am looking forward to seeing many of you tonight at Maynard Jackson High School as we celebrate our 8th grade class moving on to high school. The event is at 7:30pm and this year, for the first time, the ANCS 5th grade Celebration will be at the same location just a couple of hours earlier at 5:30pm.I always have mixed emotions at this event as we make it to the end of another school year. It’s hard to see the 8th graders go but they need to experience the next step and I’m looking forward to meeting our next group of 6th graders in just a couple of months!
Tomorrow, we’ll close out the year at the Middle Campus with Field Day. It seems like the possibility of rain has plagued us for the last few years and this year is no different. Of course, Ms. Santina has a great backup plan in case it really does rain so I am confident that fun will still be had! Students don’t need to bring anything with them to school on Thursday and don’t forget that we have a Noon dismissal. There won’t be any After Care on Thursday so students need to either walk/bike home or be picked up at noon.
Families of rising 6th – 8th graders should have received information last week via email from Somer Hobby about the Middle Campus Summer Reading and Math activities. In case you don’t have that email, everything you need to know about the reading choices and math activities can also be found here (http://ancsmcmediacenter.blogspot.com/) on Ms. Linahan’s blog.
We are asking each Middle Campus student to read at least 2 books over the break: at least one from the required list and at least one “choice” book. We’ve provided some links to possible options for the choice book or students can read anything of interest to them. We are also asking that adults pick up one of the required books to read along with your middle schooler. Engage him or her in conversation about the book as you read and have fun with it! I’m planning to read either Ghost or Flying Lessons & Other Stories. Which one will you choose? For summer math, students will be working on the Khan Academy mission for the grade they just finished to be sure their skills are sharp when they return in August.
Final Grade Reports for the year will be available in ManageBac at some point on Friday afternoon. Before we release the reports, I’ll send an email to families explaining everything you can access in ManageBac and how to get to each thing. Keep your eye out for that one and read it carefully as it might be a little long.
Thank you to the Middle Campus families for sharing your children with us each day. I am grateful and proud to be a part of this school family.
Wishing you well for the summer!
