Dear ANCS Families and Friends,
Over the past few weeks our students have been working hard in classes as well as to prepare for and present their Student-Led Conferences. They’ve engaged in learning and showed their learning through formatives and summatives. Of course, these things are all important parts of middle school and having fun and socializing is also important, especially at this age. This week, they get to do one of the things they look forward to most … the Zombie Prom! The Zombie Prom happens this Friday, November 2 and if you are a parent or guardian of a middle campus student you should have received an email from me with all of the details you and your child need to know for this fun event.
Books, Breakfast & Buzzers – or BBB – is the name the students developed for our in-house Reading Bowl team. BBB is open to any interested student and will begin meeting in November after school on Mondays until 4:30 and on Fridays for Library Lunches. The reading list will consist of all 20 titles from the Georgia Children’s Book Award Nominees which are separated by grades 4-5 and 6-8, but all are great middle school reads. Students should aim to read at least 4 books. The more they read, the better they will do in the final trivia bowl. During meetings, students will have time to work on book trailers and create trivia questions. The majority of the reading is done on the students’ own time. The club will have a final meeting on Saturday, February 2 where families can join us for breakfast, hear our book discussions and see our book trailers and displays. The morning culminates with a nail-biting trivia event and lots of fun. Contact Terri Linahan for additional information.
The busy sports schedule continues as both the Flag Football and Ultimate Wolves approach the end of their seasons. The Flag Football team plays their final regular season game on Friday night vs. Dekalb Prep. The game will be at 6:00 at Badgett Stadium. The playoffs begin on Saturday and we’re expecting to make it. The game time will be either 6:00pm or 7:30pm – stay tuned! The Ultimate team plays their final matches on Saturday during the Open (coed) Tournament. Go Wolves!
The PTCA Fall Festival: Battle of the Bands Edition will take place this Saturday, November 3 from 11:00am to 2:00pm at the Elementary Campus. In addition to the battle of the bands, there will be a scarecrow creation competition and there will also be games, food and activities for all families to enjoy. For more information about the event, click here.
Finally, remember that ANCS has school as usual on Tuesday, November 6. Because many APS schools are polling places, APS has decided to make the day a teacher work day but neither ANCS campus is a polling location so we’re having a regular school day.
Wishing you well,
