Letter from Cathey Goodgame – October 9, 2019

Dear ANCS Families and Friends,

Each Wednesday since mid-September we have been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month during Morning Meeting and that celebration will continue for two more Wednesdays. During the first two weeks we listened intently as teachers and students shared their Hispanic heritage, what being Hispanic or Latino means to them, both as they have grown up and in today’s culture. Last week we were excited to welcome Jessica Caldas who shared her Puerto Rican heritage with us through her art, recently on display at the High Museum of Art as part of the Of Origins and Belonging, Drawn from Atlanta exhibition. This week eight students celebrated through dance and our final celebration on Wednesday, October 16 will involve dance as well. We hope you will join us for a special, extended Morning Meeting as we welcome Danceando to learn more about Mexican culture through dance. Thanks to the PTCA for making this final performance possible through a mini-grant.

The Cross Country team closed out their season with an amazing final race last weekend. The boys finished first overall and the girls finished second! We had a bunch of top 5 finishers in the race: Jacob (1), Maia (2), Cisco (3), Alejandro (5) and Myla (5). Congratulations to the Cross Country team for a great season!

After having last weekend off, the football team will be back at it on Friday. The Wolves will take on Hapeville Charter at 6:00pm at Badgett Stadium. The Ultimate team is taking a break from competition this week and they’ll be back at it on Saturday, October 19 as they compete in a round robin tournament at the Rockdale Sport Complex.

Speaking of breaks, Fall Break is upon us! Students will be out of school Friday, October 11 through Tuesday, October 15. When they return on Wednesday, October 16 we’ll be on a B Day, important for students to know so they have the right materials for a productive day back at school.

Finally, we are looking forward to welcoming Grandparents and Special Friends to campus on Friday, October 18. The events at the Middle Campus run from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Parents/guardians – If you would like to give permission for your child to leave at 3:30 pm with their grandparent or special friend be sure to email their Advisor(s) directly with that permission no later than Thursday, October 17. Otherwise, students will need to remain at school until the regular 3:45 pm dismissal.

Wishing you well,
