Letter from Lara Zelski – August 21, 2019

Dear ANCS Families and Friends,

The Elementary Curriculum Night is just around the corner. This year’s curriculum night will be next Wednesday, August 28th. We will follow the same structure as last year by having grades K-5 and our wonderful related arts and support teachers on one night.

Curriculum Night provides you with the opportunity to learn more about the work in which your child will be involved throughout the year. Teachers will give you an overview of the curriculum along with some of the expectations for the grade level as a whole. If you are unable to attend, your child’s classroom teachers will provide you with information that was discussed. As always, you should feel free to contact your child’s teachers with any additional questions you may have regarding curriculum or classroom activities. Please note that curriculum night is not a time to meet one-on-one with your child’s teachers. If you desire a conference, please schedule another time to meet.

The schedule for the evening was designed to allow families with students in more than one grade level to attend each grade level’s discussion. Additionally, it provides time for everyone to learn more about our related arts curricula, meet our support teachers and learn more about what they are doing to support teaching and learning each day. If you only have one student at ANCS, you only need to attend one of the classroom sessions. The schedule is as follows:

  • 5:30-6:15 – classroom session one
  • 6:15-6:45 – related arts and support teachers – in auditorium
  • 6:45-7:30 – classroom session two

Curriculum Night is for parents and guardians only. Thanks to our PTCA, free childcare is available (up to capacity & and with reservations). Our after school program will close at 5:00 pm to allow teachers time to prepare for the evening. Childcare for the evening will run from 5:15-7:45 pm to allow parents time to get to classroom sessions on time. Childcare is only available for ANCS students and their siblings (ages 4 and up). You can sign up for childcare here.

This week our whole school is discussing our second guiding principle, we respect each other, our surroundings and ourselves. Talk with your child at home about what he/she has learned about this guiding principle and what it means here at ANCS. Next week, we will discuss we take responsibility for our actions and learning.

As always, I am happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Lara
