Letter from Lara Zelski – December 18, 2019

Dear ANCS Families and Friends,

We have had a busy few days here at the elementary campus. We are enjoying the recap of Winterfest performances at morning meeting each morning and working hard to finish up work before the break. Thanks to those of you who joined us for our Conscious Discipline parent workshop this morning. Thanks also to our Leslie Jo Tottneham and our Conscious Discipline Action Team members for leading this.

A big shout out goes to ANCS music teacher, Mrs. Wawerna, for creating and directing three beautiful nights of Winterfest last week. I am always blown away at how well our students perform. A special thanks goes to Coach Daniel, Mrs. Paez and Ms. Keller who supported Mrs. Wawerna with rehearsals and all the back stage details. Also, to Ms. Arringon, Ms. Griffin and Ms. Green for entertaining the crowd with their lovely talent during the change of grade levels. Finally, thank you to our middle campus students who sang for us prior to Winterfest beginning.

All the lost and found items are located in our cafeteria. We will donate all remaining items at the end of the day Thursday, December 19th. We are encouraging students to take some time to look through the missing jackets, sweaters, shirts, hats, lunchboxes, etc. at some point this week. You can look through them yourself in the morning before or after morning meeting or at 3:15 pm, directly after dismissal.

Once we get back to school, your child will be bringing home his/her 18-Week Progress Report on Monday, January 6th. As a reminder, this report is part of our holistic reporting system, and is designed to operate in conjunction with parent conferences and the end-of-the-year report card. This report is intentionally called a Progress Report because we understand that students are continually growing and developing over the course of a school year. The progress report provides a picture of where a student’s understanding of grade level standards is at this point in the school year. There is no formal parent-teacher conference required for this marking period, but, as always, if you feel the need to meet with your child’s teachers, you should reach out to them to set up a time.

Remember that this Friday is an 11:30 am dismissal and there is no after school care. I hope you have a wonderful remainder of your week and a peaceful holiday break!

Wishing you well,

Lara
