Letter from MC Principal

Hello MC families,

Last week our 8th graders did a great job in completing their Portfolio Exhibitions. I was able to both sit in on and judge multiple Exhibitions, and I was impressed with the ways that our students reflected upon and discussed their learning. This year it was really nice to have both parents and community panelists back in the building as well. Shout out to both the 8th grade students and their Advisors for all of the work that they put into us having a successful week of Exhibitions. Sixth and seventh grade Advisories were a part of the audience for 8th grade Exhibitions so that they could learn from the example of their older peers. Sixth and seventh grade Exhibitions will take place the week of May 15th – 19th, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they put together in a couple of weeks!

We capped last week off with our Pep Rally and it was great to see so many smiling faces (students and teachers alike). Pep Rallies typically only celebrate athletes, but I’m glad that we celebrate clubs as well as academic success in Power 30 during our pep rallies. As I walked down the street after dismissal to my post in the car line I overheard a student say to a friend, “The pep rally every year is something that makes me feel good about the school that I go to.” This is a testament to the hard work that our teachers put into planning, preparing, and going the extra mile to enrich our school with both outstanding academics and outstanding extracurriculars. I am very appreciative of the work that they do for our kids.

Finally, the Milestones test has gotten off to a good start. 6th graders will conclude their End of Grade testing with the Math test on Thursday, and 8th graders will take Social Studies on Friday. 7th graders will test Monday through Thursday of next week, and 8th graders will conclude their testing with ELA on Monday through Wednesday of next week. As a reminder, throughout Milestones testing it is important for students to get a good night’s rest, to continue their breakfast routine, and to arrive at school on time.

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to reach out.

Kind regards,

Mark
