Letter from Cathey Goodgame – November 6, 2019

ANCS School Family,

November is here and our annual field trips as part of the City of Atlanta’s Cultural Experience Project are just around the corner. For more details about the trips, please look back at my letter in the October 23 Courier. Thanks to those of you who have sent in $5 for your child. If you haven’t done so, please send $5, cash or check, to the main office or you can pay online using this link (scroll down to Middle Campus Arts Field Trips).

It was great to see so many of you in the building last week for conferences. I heard several conversations about learning goals as families left the building and heard many adults comment on how well the kids handled leading their conferences. If you weren’t able to make a conference time last week please be sure to work with your child’s advisor(s) to set up a time this week. It is important for every child to have the opportunity to lead their conference and for every family to have input in the learning goal for the year.

You may have noticed your child wearing an unusual amount of pink to school last week. On Wednesday we had a “Pink Out” in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This awareness event, as well as many of the Hispanic Heritage Month activities, were led by our newly formed Celebrations Committee. The Elementary Campus has been working in committees for several years and the Middle Campus decided to follow that path this year. In addition to the aforementioned Celebrations Committee, this year’s committees are: Advisory, Portfolios and Exhibitions, Service as Action, School Culture, and Technology in the Classroom. Thanks to all of the teachers and staff for working on these important topics, helping ensure that we continue to educate the whole child!

In case you’re looking for the date of the next MYP Info Session for 6th grade and new families you won’t find it on the calendar until January. November and December tend to be really busy months for everyone so we are taking a very short break from the monthly sessions. We’ll be back at it again in January with a very popular session where Somer Hobby helps families walk through the semester progress report. The dates are already on the January website calendar (January 22 and 24) and Somer will send an RSVP out, as usual, about a week before the session.

Finally, last weekend signaled the official end of the fall sports seasons as they final teams completed play. Flag Football finished a strong season on Friday night and the Open (Co-ed) Ultimate team finished second in their end of season tournament on Saturday. A huge thanks goes out to all of the coaches of the fall sports teams for their hard work and dedication to our kids! If you see any of these amazing people around in the coming days please stop for a moment to give them some thanks: Mike Boardman (Ultimate), Santina Cambor (Athletic Director), Aleah Clemmons (Cheer), Fred Fuller (Football), Nura Goodson (Cross Country), Fred Huff (Football), Terry Pechacek (Football), and Dale Scott (Cross Country).

Wishing you well,

Cathey
