Letter from the MC Principal

Hello ANCS Family,

I hope that you all enjoyed your February breaks. Mine was low key but nice. I enjoyed spending time doing things locally that I typically wouldn’t have the time to do. This week back at school final preparations are being made for our Black History Month Celebration and Teach-In on Monday the 28th. During this annual event we change the schedule for the day and spend a full day celebrating Black history, art, and culture with student-led and teacher-led lessons and performances.

Throughout the building students are putting their final finishing touches on their HBCU door decorations and teachers have various bulletin boards celebrating black history. Bulletin boards outside our Science classrooms celebrate Black American Leaders in STEM (e.g. astronaut Mae Jemison and biochemist Emmett Chapelle) and include a Periodic Table of Black History. A bulletin board outside an Individuals and Societies class highlights historical figures like Phyllis Wheatley (poet) and Agrippa Hull (Black soldier in the Revolutionary War). In our building there are opportunities to learn about, and celebrate, Black history from the classrooms to the hallways.

Finally, as we move into spring a new set of sports including track, soccer, and baseball is starting up. Also for those of you who have been wondering about MAP scores from the winter administration, you will find those uploaded in ManageBac (click on “portfolio” and scroll down a bit).

Have a great week and if you have any questions feel free to reach out!

Kind regards,

Mark
