Letter from Cathey Goodgame – February 13, 2019

Dear ANCS Families and Friends,

Today is one of our favorite days at the Middle Campus as we have our day long Black History Celebration and Teach-In. After an exciting Morning Meeting full of dancing, spoken word, and celebration the students are spending the day rotating through session taught by their peers and adults from our school family. Though the students won’t get to experience all of the sessions below, they will get a mixture of experience and are sure to learn while having some fun. Be sure to ask your child about the day when he/she gets home tonight.

African Dance Experience
Black Atlanta: Black Impact on Atlanta since the 1800’s
Exploring Identity Protocol Session
Historic Legal Cases in Black History
Not just a comic: Marvel and Civil Rights Advocacy
Privilege Walk
Protest Art
The Impact of Emmett Till; The Influence of Tupac; The Black Panther Party
Tracking Human Migration Using Scientific Investigation
What is race?

During Morning Meeting last week I reminded the students that Valentine’s Day, tomorrow, is not a school holiday :) Students have been asked not to bring stuffed animals, candy, flowers, balloons and other similar items to school tomorrow. We hope to have as normal a school day as possible. Thanks in advance for your help with this.

The Baseball Wolves kicked off their season last weekend and have two more games this week. On Thursday, they will play Lakeside at 7:30 pm and Saturday they take on DHMS Red at 1:00 pm. Both of these games will be played at Medlock Park. The basketball teams get a little bit of a rest this week before they play their final regular season game on Friday, February 22 at KIPP South Fulton. Go Wolves!

Finally, remember that the students have next week off for Mid-Winter Break next. Teachers and staff will be back at work on Friday, February 22 for a professional/work day and we look forward to seeing the kids again on Monday, February 25.

Wishing you well,
