Letter from the MC Principal

Hello MC families,

One of our practices as a school is to greet our students at the door before they enter class. This allows teachers to notice how students are presenting as they enter class, so that they can check in with anyone who may seem to need support. This is also a practice that we are using when you see us checking in students as they enter the school building each day. We will continue to work on supporting students at school. If you have a student that is struggling or who needs support please reach out and let us know.

We have completed Milestones testing for the year, with the 7th graders wrapping up their ELA testing on Wednesday, and make-ups being completed on Thursday. Sixth and seventh grade students completed their Portfolio Exhibitions this week. In addition to hearing the reflections of our youngest students, it was interesting to see students incorporate what they learned from watching the 8th graders last week.

Next week we have several events on tap that will help us close out the school year.

  • The 8th grade Celebration is on Tuesday, May 21st (8th grade parents have already received emails covering the details of this event.)
  • The Winter/Spring Athletics Banquet is on Wednesday, May 22nd at 6:00pm.
  • Extended Advisory will be on Thursday the 23rd. On that day we will have shortened classes in the first half of the day, and then Advisories will spend the rest of the day hanging out and bonding for one last time to close out the year. Your students’ Advisors will be reaching out soon regarding their plans if they have not already.

Finally, on Friday, May 24th we will have Field Day and a noon dismissal. Sometimes people forget that school gets out at 12:00pm on the last day of school. Please make arrangements to have your child picked up at 12pm as there is no after care on Friday.

As for Field Day itself, students should:

  • ALL be wearing their Field Day t-shirts (those will be distributed next week)
  • Students should be in dress code (no bathing suits, and shorts should cover undergarments),
  • Bring a water bottle (we will not have individual water bottles in order to minimize waste)
  • Wear sunscreen as we will be outside most of the day.

Summer reading books and yearbooks will also be distributed next week. As a reminder, there will be two or three opportunities for students to check in with adults about their reading progress throughout the summer in a book club format. Stay tuned for more details about this.

As always, if you have any questions feel free to reach out.

Kind regards,

Mark
