Letter from the MC Principal

Hello MC families,

The last weeks of the school year are always full of special events. Typically, when a student wins Principal for the Day at the Wonderball, the day that they are the Principal is the following school year. However, this spring’s winner was an 8th grader so we had to get their day in this year. We’ve had two Principal for the Day events in the last two weeks. A soccer tournament on Monday the 14th and a volleyball tournament on Monday the 21st. Students competed in Advisory groups, there were grade level champions, and schoolwide champions. These are always exciting events that the students love.

In the classroom teachers are using their creativity to keep students engaged. Students are making ice cream in Science classes, creating socket puppets in 6th grade Design and putting on performances in Performing Arts. There is a lot of excitement and energy in the building so we are definitely trying to channel that energy.

Advisories are going on their Extended Advisory excursions today and finally, on Friday, May 24th we will have Field Day and a noon dismissal. Sometimes people forget that school gets out at 12:00pm on the last day of school. Please make arrangements to have your child picked up at 12pm as there is no after care on Friday. Below are a couple reminders from my last Courier letter about Field Day, yearbooks, and summer reading.

As for Field Day itself, students should:

  • ALL be wearing their Field Day t-shirts (those will be distributed on Thursday)
  • Students should be in dress code (no bathing suits, and shorts should cover undergarments),
  • Bring a water bottle (we will not have individual water bottles in order to minimize waste)
  • Wear sunscreen as we will be outside most of the day.

Summer reading books and yearbooks will also be distributed today. As a reminder, there will be two or three opportunities for students to check in with adults about their reading progress throughout the summer in a book club format. Stay tuned for more details about this.

The Preliminary Georgia Milestones Individual Student Reports (ISRs) are available and will be coming home in a sealed envelope this afternoon with your 6th and 8th grader(s). Please see grade level specific details below:
  • 6th grade ISRs will include ELA scores only.
  • 7th grade ISRs as well as late makeups in any grade level have not been made available yet and will be sent home the 1st week of the 2024-2025 school year.
  • 8th grade ISRs will include ELA, Social Studies and Science scores only.

The district has let us know that math scores will not be available to any student in the state of Georgia until late summer, so we will send those ISRs home the first week of the 2024-2025 school year. If you have any additional questions, please email NaTasha Woody-Wideman

Finally, I hope that everyone has a safe, restful, and restorative summer break. It has been a pleasure working in partnership with our families in support of our children this year and I look forward to a great year next year. We will see you on July 30th for the first day of the 2024-2025 school year!

Kind regards,
