Dear ANCS Families and Friends,
Mark your calendars for the next Principal’s Coffee on Friday, January 30. Amber McKeen from Stephanie V. Blank Center for Safe and Healthy Children will join us to present “Tweet, Retweet, Hashtag, Insta-What?! Understanding the Benefits, Pitfalls and Dangers of Social Media.” The presentation will cover understanding the basics of social media, including how teens use technology to communicate via texting and other social media applications (apps) like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Tinder, Askfm, Whisper and more. We will also talk about messenger apps like Kik, Snapchat, and ooVoo. In addition, we will talk about how GPS functionality interacts with these social media platforms.
The January 30 “Principal’s Coffee” should probably go by another name that week, as I will have to miss it to attend the Georgia Charter Schools Leadership Conference. Lara Zelski and I will be presenting at the conference along with the Instructional Leader at Amana Academy on the subject of “Building Positive Community Through Morning Meetings.” If you haven’t been to a middle campus morning meeting this year, we invite you to join us any Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 9:00. We have music, movement, play, performances and many other things that make our time together as a school family special.
We are beginning to plan for next year and have scheduled some upcoming events to help families learn more about the middle campus. On Tuesday, January 27 at 6:30pm we will host the parents/guardians of current ANCS 5th graders for an hour or so of learning about the middle campus. Our goal is to provide a glance into middle school, primarily through the voices of our students. This event is open to current ANCS families only and is for adults only. Students will have the opportunity to visit campus later in the school year. Middle campus information sessions for the general public will be held on Saturday, February 21 at 10:00am and Thursday, March 5 at 6:30pm. Please encourage any families interested in ANCS middle campus to attend one of these sessions in the coming weeks.
Finally, a reminder to current ANCS families about the re-enrollment process. The intent to return/re-enroll letter must be completed by all current families and returned to the main office no later than Friday, January 23 at 3:00pm. If you did not receive this letter, copies are available online and also in the main office. This letter also offers the opportunity to advise of your intent to enroll siblings who are new to ANCS. If you have any questions about this process, contact Maria Larson at email@example.com or 678-904-0051 x504.
Wishing you well,
