Letter from Cathey Goodgame – February 25, 2015

Dear ANCS Families and Friends,

Today, we planned to spend a wonderful day at the Middle Campus through our Celebration of Black History. Due to the snow day we will have to reschedule this event for sometime in the very near future. Several other events are mentioned below and our hope is to continue them as planned. Stay tuned and stay safe and warm!

A huge thank you goes out to Aaron Goodson for organizing a trip for all of our 8th graders to see the film Selma tomorrow. Aaron sought out funding for this experience through Cicero Class Trip, the trip vendor for donorschoose.org, and was able to provide a completely free trip for our entire 8th grade class. It’s pretty cool to see an idea become a fully funded event because a teacher cared enough to pursue resources and donors to secure a meaningful experience for our students.

The end of the second 12-week term of the school year was Thursday, February 19. Teachers are finalizing End of Term reports today and tomorrow. Reports will be available for pick up by parents/guardians at the Middle Campus on Monday, March 2 and Tuesday, March 3. If you would prefer that your child bring his or her report home, email Maria Larson (mlarson@ancs2016.wpengine.com) to give permission for that to happen. If you emailed Maria with permission for first term reports to be brought home by your student, you do not need to do that again. All reports not picked up by 4:00 on Tuesday will be mailed home.

Finally, the monthly Principal’s Coffee is this Friday beginning at 8:15. This month we will be joined by Jessica Andrews of Guide Inc. (guideinc.org). Learn from the Executive Director of a well-respected Substance Abuse Prevention agency about the trends in substance use and abuse among middle and high school students and what you can do as a parent to make it less likely that your teen will choose to use. This interactive discussion will include several handouts and tools you can use with your children immediately. We look forward to seeing you for coffee and learning on Friday morning.

Wishing you well,

Cathey
