MC Instructions for Virtual Learning

Good afternoon ANCS Families,

I hope that you’ve had a safe, restful, and enjoyable break. In December I thought that my first email to families as I stepped into the role of Interim Principal would have been a generic hello email. However, in the last few years we’ve certainly seen that education amidst COVID can change in the blink of an eye. As you know we have switched to 100% virtual learning this week and next (through at least January 14th), and I’m sure that you all are making the necessary adjustments at home. Some of the other highlights from the schoolwide communication about virtual learning, if you haven’t seen it already, are the following:

  • Students will login to virtual classes beginning Wednesday 1/5 through next Friday 1/14.

    • To get to their virtual classes students will go to their Google Calendars to find the links they need – more information about how to do that is below for those that need it.

  • Unless something changes between now and then, our plan is to return to in-person learning on Tuesday 1/18 after the MLK holiday and we plan to resume surveillance testing that morning.

Logging in to Online Classes

In order for students to access their classes we are going to have them sign in to links on their Google Calendars ( Our 7th and 8th graders should be familiar with this process from their time with us virtually last year and some of our 6th graders have been through this process this year, but I have included a video (linked here) that breaks down the process. The video walks students through how to:

  • Find their Google Calendar links

  • Login with their Google/ account so they can get into their class Google Meets or Zooms

  • Add any class calendars that they are missing

The slides I used in the video can be found here.

Here are a few other important details.

  • Our daily schedule is different for 100% virtual learning – for those who have been at ANCS the last few years we will use our 9:30am – 3:00 pm Middle Campus schedule which includes a universal K-8 lunch/recess time from 12-1pm. I have included that daily schedule below at the very bottom of this email below my signature.

  • EVEN IF YOUR STUDENTS REMEMBER HOW TO LOGIN TO THEIR CLASSES THIS IS AN IMPORTANT REMINDER: Students will not be able to access their classes unless they are logged in with their accounts – they cannot login with their personal email accounts. This helps us make sure we have the right people in our virtual classrooms. If students are using their personal computers or using a parent/guardian’s computer they may unintentionally start off logged in to an external gmail account. This is the number one reason students struggle to get into their classes – so it’s important to make sure that students are logged into their ANCS accounts.

  • When students enter their virtual classrooms they should have their CAMERAS ON so that their teachers know that they are fully engaging, and their MICROPHONES OFF until they are instructed otherwise.

Thanks for bearing with us as we continue to navigate an ever-changing situation. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me.

Kind regards,

Interim Principal
ANCS Middle Campus
