MC Principal Letter

Dear Middle Campus families,

The beginning of my first week as the official Principal (more on that in a minute) has been a good one. First I want to commend our teachers, our students, and our families overall as we made the adjustment to virtual learning on short notice. I’ve been popping into classes over the last week and I’ve seen children engaging, as well as teachers adjusting on a dime and teaching rigorous lessons. I’m proud of the work that we have done as a community managing COVID coming out of the winter break.

We look forward to bringing students back into the building for in-person learning on Tuesday the 18th. The 18th will be a regular day of school beginning at 8:30 am (arrival beginning at 8:00 am) and ending at 3:00 pm. We will also have after care that day.

COVID testing will occur on Tuesday morning and we will test again on Friday morning as well. Hopefully, you’ve already seen the communications that have gone out about this. In addition, please note that once we return to the building on January 18, we will require all students to wear surgical masks while in school. Cloth masks will no longer be an option, as research shows that they are less effective at limiting the spread of the virus. We are working now to expand our supply of child-sized surgical masks, but we are also asking all parents/caregivers that are able to please supply their children with properly fitting surgical masks. Masks will be worn all day except when students are eating or drinking. They will be required again during recess. Additionally, all teachers will be required to upgrade to KN95 masks.

Finally, allow me to reintroduce myself. Many of you know me as the Assistant Principal at the Middle Campus as I’ve served in that role for the last 5 and a half years. However, this is actually my eleventh year at ANCS. I taught Math and Science in a single class that was known as Math, Science, and Technology (M.S.T.) for the five years prior to me becoming the Assistant Principal. For some of the families that have been around a long time, I’ve previously taught some of your students’ older siblings and/or cousins – yes I’m still here! I’ve stayed at ANCS all this time, because I love this school. ANCS is a school that really puts children first and the commitment to teaching the whole child, as well as our commitment to respecting our teachers, creates the foundation of this wonderful school. I’ve collaborated with Dr. Goodgame to help run this school since 2016 in my role as Assistant Principal, and I look forward to continuing to serve as an educational leader as the school’s Principal. I brought my 10 years of teaching experience with me as I transitioned to Assistant Principal, and I’ll bring my experience shaping school culture and co-piloting this school with me as I take on the Principal role. I’m excited for this next chapter! As always if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Kind regards,

Mark Sanders
