Middle Campus Principal Letter

Hello school family,

As we move into the month of February we are celebrating Black History Month in various different ways. We started with a discussion during Morning Meeting on Monday, and this Friday during Advisory students will begin participating in our Historically Black College and University (HBCU) door-decorating contest. In Advisory students will research HBCU’s, learn about their history, and learn about some of their famous alumni. This learning will be reflected in the door decorations.

Beyond Advisory and Morning Meeting, we are also bringing this learning into the classroom. In Language and Literature class, students are exploring the work of various Black authors and poets. In both Science and Performing Arts, teachers are highlighting famous Black scientists and artists respectively each day as they start class. I’m proud of the work that we are doing as a school to highlight the impact of Black Americans on our country. Black history is American history.

Something else that I’ve been involved with recently is having midyear conferences with teachers. This is an opportunity for me to check in and see how teachers are doing in the classroom and just in general. Teachers set goals for themselves at the beginning of the year, and this is also an opportunity for me to check in on their progress. In addition to pushing our students to grow, our teachers work tirelessly to grow as professionals, and checking in with them is always an enjoyable process.

Enjoy the rest of your week and as always, if you have any questions feel free to reach out.

Kind regards,

Mark
