Exploring Art, Culture, and Service in Peru: Summer 2024
The “Exploring Art, Culture and Service in Peru” trip is such a remarkable trip. I had some expectations, having trained in the Dominican Republic the summer before Covid hit, but I really couldn’t have imagined what it would feel like to experience such a journey through the eyes of students. Now that I do know, I am hooked! Briefly, the itinerary: We will land in Lima and stay for a day to tour that big city, then head to some Andean altitude. We’ll fly up to Cusco and settle into what is aptly named the “Sacred Valley.” This is where our experiences and service happens. We’ll hike up Machu Picchu, visit the famous Pisach Market, work with clay alongside the world famous Pablo Seminario, and – of course – work for several days alongside members of a Quechuan community in the Andes to help build out infrastructure that will help support a women driven micro-economy around weaving and fabric arts. Additionally, I’ll work with high school teachers to coordinate IB project work and account for service hours for any students interested. If you’d like to know more, I’d love to hear from you.
