First Annual Wellness Day

Dear Middle Campus Families,

I’m excited to share that last Thursday we held our First Annual Wellness Day for students here at the Middle Campus. It was a meaningful and energizing day designed to support the mental wellness of our students in a variety of engaging and accessible ways.

Throughout the day, students rotated with their advisory groups through four different sessions, each focused on a different aspect of well-being. Topics included mindfulness and body-based practices, emotional regulation and resilience, outdoor and nature-based experiences, self-reflection and life skills, and connection and communication.

I encourage you to ask your student which session resonated most with them. It was wonderful to see the variety of ways students connected with the experience.

We received thoughtful feedback from students and staff that speaks to the impact of the day:

  • “I released so much stress yesterday that I was able to go home and really focus and I got a lot of homework done.” (8th grade)
  • “It taught me a lot about how much time I had on my schedule.” (8th grade)
  • “Everyone was kind, everything was fun and the candy was good.” (6th grade)
  • “I enjoyed all the stations and the dim lights. I learned how to make a pipe cleaner flower. I also learned how to calm my body.” (6th grade)
  • “I learned a lot about grief and how it affects the human body, both mentally and physically. I got to identify the forces in my brain that demotivated me. I also got to shred my mean thoughts, which I want to do again.” (7th grade)
  • “I think that the opportunity to sit and be creative with no real stipulations was good for some of our quiet, creative kids. They were able to sit by themselves and work independently, kind of in their own world.” (Staff)

This day would not have been possible without the support of a PTCA grant and the generosity of over 20 volunteers from local agencies. We are especially grateful to the Pace Academy High School Student Mental Wellness team for leading a session and for inspiring the creation of this event.

We would also like to thank the following agencies and practitioners for sharing their time and expertise with our students. If your family is seeking additional support, these are trusted professionals who have already invested in our community:

We are grateful for the opportunity to prioritize student wellness in such a meaningful way and look forward to building on this work in the future.
