“In Lak’ech” is a poem rooted in Mayan philosophy written by Chicano playwright Luiz Valdes, and it has become an important piece of our school culture. It is routinely recited in both Spanish and English during morning meetings at the middle campus, and it aligns with our International Baccalaureate aim to “develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world”. We’ve printed the words of the poem in Spanish and English on a hoodie – one of the more popular middle campus clothing options – that is now available to purchase from the PTCA School Store.
Tú eres mi otro yo. / You are my other me.
Si te hago daño a ti, / If I do harm to you,
Me hago daño a mi mismo. / I do harm to myself.
Si te amo y respeto, / If I love and respect you,
Me amo y respeto yo. / I love and respect myself.
