Myth #1: Joining the PTCA means I have to volunteer and attend all meetings.
Truth: The PTCA appreciates everyone’s membership, regardless of whether or not a member is able to volunteer and/or come to PTCA meetings.
Myth #2. I don’t have the time to join the PTCA.
Truth: If you are unable to volunteer your time, please consider offering your financial support simply by joining. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that your support helps fund events and activities for the children throughout the school year!
Myth #3. I have to be a board member or chair a committee to join the PTCA.
Truth: You do not have to serve on the PTCA Board or chair a committee to join the PTCA. We appreciate your support as a member!
Myth #4. I’ll get roped into volunteering if I attend a PTCA meeting.
Truth: There will be opportunities to get involved, but no pressure. We appreciate the opportunity to talk with you and get fresh, new ideas, and support!
Myth #5. Only moms and teachers needs to join the PTCA.
Truth: A strong PTCA needs the support of parents, grandparents, family members, teachers, school staff, and the community. Anyone who cares about children belongs in the PTCA!
Myth #6. My PTCA membership never expires. I only have to join once.
Truth: Each new school year begins a new PTCA membership. Your PTCA membership will be good for this entire school year but will need to be renewed again next year.
Myth #7. The PTCA is only for stay-at-home parents with plenty of free time.
Truth: Your fellow PTCA members are family and community members who want to support the kids and the school. Most members are juggling a job, bills, household chores, kids, sports, and homework, just like you!
Myth #8. Joining the PTCA does not directly affect my child.
Truth: Not only does membership put you in direct communication with other parents and teachers, it shows your child that you are interested and invested in their educational experience.
Myth #9. The PTCA has all the help they need.
Truth: The PTCA always wants and always needs volunteers! If you choose to volunteer, you decide your time commitment.
Myth #10. I have an idea, but the PTCA isn’t interested.
Truth: New ideas are always welcome. It is important to keep our PTCA fresh and exciting!
