Art and music are integral components to the Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School’s goal of shaping the whole child. And the Related Arts Committee is integral to fostering support for these programs, and establishing a connection between the parents of the school and the art and music curriculum. So what is the committee and how can parents get involved?
The Related Arts Committee is a PTCA committee led by a volunteer parent Chairperson and/or volunteer Co-Chair team. Annette Wawerna, the elementary campus music teacher, and Carol Keller, the elementary campus art teacher are members of the committee. The additional committee members are ANCS additional parents with a love, interest, or profession in the arts and a commitment to ensuring the success of these programs at our school. To get involved, please be on the lookout for upcoming volunteer opportunities soon!
Currently, the Related Arts Committee assists with the following programs/events:
Winterfest– The ANCS Holiday Program featuring grades K-5 where family and friends can see their performers sing songs of the season. Dates and times will be announced closer to the event. Usually held the first week of December.
Wonderball – The Wonderball is ANCS’ biggest annual fundraiser that features a silent and live auction, live music, catered buffet, and more and is not to be missed. The Related Arts committee assists with procuring the student made art from every grade level that is auctioned off at the annual event. Usually held early March but requires volunteers starting in February to assist Ms. Keller in both the creation and documentation of the class art projects.
Misc Projects – There are miscellaneous art and music projects throughout the year that need parent support. From decorating the school for the holidays to helping out in the art and music classrooms, members of the committee can help support these projects throughout the year as they pop up.
