Hello! I’m Jessica Harlan, the chair of the Sustainability Committee for the PTCA, and mom to Sadie (8th) and Gillian (5th). In the past our committee has helped the school increase its sustainability efforts by helping phase out single-use plastic utensils in the cafeteria, holding an electronics recycling drive, and we’ve organized our school’s winning participation in CHARM’s plastic film recycling contest.
In honor of Martin Luther King Day, which has become a day of service, we’d like to announce a friendly competition for members of our school family who might be participating in a service day event or who want to do their own activity or project that can help our community.
Here’s what you need to do: Take a photo of yourself or your family participating in a community service event, whether it’s cleaning up trash in a local park, delivering donations to a food pantry, making hygiene bags for homeless people, or any other act of giving. Post your photo in the Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School Family Facebook group no later than Tuesday, January 19, at 3pm. Be sure to include an explanation of what you’re doing! My committee will choose a winner from all of those photos submitted and will reach out to you to deliver your prize! Not on Facebook? You can email me your photo and description with the subject line “Wolf Pack Service Day Contest” to firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to let me know if it’s OK to post the photo for you on our private Facebook group.
We are looking forward to seeing our school family doing good deeds in our community!
