Hot Weather & Outdoor Activities

With temperatures and heat indexes reaching dangerously high levels recently, families may notice changes to recess, PE, athletics, and other outdoor activities.

ANCS follows Atlanta Public Schools’ guidelines for outdoor activities during hot weather. These guidelines take into account factors such as temperature, humidity, heat index, students’ ages, length of time outdoors, access to shade, and air quality.

Depending on conditions, our staff may shorten or modify outdoor activities, increase water and rest breaks, move activities indoors, or cancel non-essential outdoor activities when necessary. Staff also monitor students closely for signs of heat-related illness and make sure students have access to water.
