Looking ahead to the 2022-2023 school year

Late arrival Mondays or early dismissal Wednesdays?

It is considered a best practice for schools to make time for faculty/staff planning, collaboration and professional development. Our school has maintained this policy and it has impacted students in a very direct and positive way.

This year we changed our schedule to shift planning/collaboration time from Wednesday afternoons to Monday mornings. We’ve operated this way for seven months now, and some of the qualitative data we have gathered seems to suggest that early dismissal Wednesdays may have been better for students and faculty.

We are holding a conversation about this with our employees now about the best approach for next school year. We also want to hear from parents/caregivers about your experience with late arrival Mondays. We realize that first and second year parents at our school have not experienced the early dismissal Wednesday schedule. We’d ask those of you who have had that experience to compare the two options and let us know which works best for your family. Even if you cannot compare the two, please offer your perspective on your preferred option.

Here’s how early dismissal Wednesdays would work next year:

  • Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays would still begin and end at 8:00am/8:30am and 2:30pm/3:00pm at the elementary and middle campuses, respectively.
  • The school day would end at 1:30pm at the elementary campus and 2:00pm at the middle campus on Wednesdays.
  • On Wednesdays, AfterCare would begin at 1:30pm at the elementary campus and 2:00pm at the middle campus, and there would no longer be a need for EarlyCare on Mondays.
