New Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Co-Directors

Humaira Afzal (left) and Dr. Cassie Leymarie (right) are our new Co-Directors for diversity, equity and inclusion.

Humaira has spent her entire teaching career here at Neighborhood Charter, and has played a lead role in DE&I efforts focused on employees and parents/caregivers. She will continue teaching 6th and 7th grade mathematics for now, and transition more fully into her co-director role over time. Cassie joins us from the Global Village Project, a school for refugee girls, where she served on the leadership team.

The DE&I Co-Directors will work in active, flexible partnership with each other to build community and facilitate all DE&I components of the school’s strategic plan. They will endeavor to reach and support all stakeholder groups within the school family: Students, faculty/staff, parents/caregivers and school leadership. They will also endeavor to advance the school’s reputation in the external community through direct outreach and strategic partnerships.
