Run with the Wolves Volunteers Needed

Since 2012, the ANCS PTCA has hosted a community road race to raise funds for the school.  The Run with the Wolves (RWTW) features a 5K, 1 Mile, and “Pup Run” and this year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2024. The RWTW draws around 500 participants and raises several thousands of dollars for ANCS, so it is a big event that is almost entirely organized by volunteers.  See below for ways you can assist and if interested please email runwiththewolves@atlncs.org to indicate your interest in helping. Thanks!

Be a part of the RWTW planning committee:

Starting in January and up until the RWTW, the central planning committee will meet about once a month for an hour or so. Committee members can expect about 1-3 hours or work each month between committee meetings.  Here are the main areas of focus for the committee:

  • RWTW Chair: Overall event management; coordination with ANCS PTCA and staff; permitting with city; manage security and medical contacts; work with race timing company
  • Volunteer Coordinator: Helping to secure and direct volunteers for various activities in the 2-3 weeks leading up to race day
  • Marketing: Get the word out about the race through social media, Courier, community groups, etc.
  • T-Shirts: Oversee RWTW t-shirt design contest, ordering of shirts
  • Training Runs: Organize regular informal training run opportunities for students and families
  • Awards and Swag Bags: Helping to put together awards and swag bags for race participants
  • Race Day Logistics: Helping volunteer coordinator to direct volunteers on various tasks on race day

Race week/day needs:

There will be a number of different volunteer needs in the week or so leading up to RWTW and on the day of the race itself.  These volunteer opportunities will be for about an hour each and a volunteer sign up will go out a few weeks before RWTW. Here’s a sampling of the types of volunteer needs at that time:

  • Distribute yard signs
  • Swag bag prep
  • Race bib and swag bag pick up
  • Pre-race set up
  • Distribute race notices to homes along course
  • Race day registration/bag pick up
  • General race day needs
  • Race day set up
  • Water station
  • Photographer
  • Awards
  • Race day breakdown/clean up
