School Family Task Force
As you may know, over the past couple of years, ANCS has implemented changes to increase inclusive and equitable ways for all members of the school family to contribute to the activities and events of the school. Specifically, ANCS merged the Diversity, Equity and Action Team (DEAT) and the PTCA; consolidated giving under the school’s Gather and Grow Fund; phased out membership fees for the PTCA; and integrated the PTCA’s budget into the school’s budget. Additionally, ANCS named Cassie Leymarie and Humaira Afzal Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Co-directors for the school.
In furtherance of ANCS’ efforts, early this month, the Governing Board asked this year’s current PTCA Co-Presidents not to present a slate of officers for a new Executive Committee to the school family. Instead, the Governing Board of ANCS will discuss and vote on a resolution at its next meeting on Thursday, May 18, 2023, to establish a task force. The purpose of the task force is to evaluate and make recommendations to the Governing Board about how to best engage parents, caregivers, teachers, and community members in inclusive, sustainable volunteerism. The task force will include parents, volunteers, teachers, and school leaders.
All of the meetings of the Governing Board are public, and I encourage you to attend to learn more about the Governing Board. You can find the details for the meeting on our website.
