Schoolwide COVID-19 Mitigation Steps

COVID-19 transmission rates are increasing in our community even as vaccinations remain readily available. We will continue with our multi-layered health and safety strategy to help protect our school family. Here’s an overview:

  • Daily pre-screening for COVID symptoms for students, faculty and staff
  • Students, teachers and staff masked at all times when indoors, except when eating and drinking
  • Students seated behind plexiglass dividers
  • No sharing of tools, supplies or materials between students
  • Limited number of students in bathrooms at any given time
  • Hallway dividers that control the flow of foot traffic through hallways and common areas
  • Separate grade level entrances to avoid crowding
  • Specially equipped Isolation room in the event that a student exhibits COVID symptoms or tests positive during the day
  • Intermittent cleaning of classrooms and common areas throughout each day
  • Additional outdoor seating capacity
  • Full-time nurse at both campuses

Additional measures under development

  • Mandatory weekly COVID-19 surveillance testing for faculty and staff
  • Weekly COVID-19 surveillance testing for students during the school day with parent/caregivers’ consent
  • COVID-19 vaccinations available on site at the middle campus (two dates, to be scheduled)

As a reminder, we installed filtration units last year on all HVAC units at both campuses that are designed to remove virus-sized particles from the airflow.

In the event of a positive case

Contact tracing protocols are in place at both campuses. As we welcome all students back into the building each day, we can no longer keep class groups completely separate from each other – there will be some intermingling of grade levels during recess and AfterCare, for example. Middle campus students will no longer be restricted to their advisory groups. Positive cases and potential exposures will be carefully analyzed on a case-by-case basis and contact tracing will proceed immediately. Close contacts will be notified by the school nurses, and instructions to quarantine/isolate will be issued.

A specifically designed remote learning plan will be activated for students who test positive or are a close contact. That remote learning plan will end with their quarantine period.
