Updates to the Parent Teacher Community Association (PTCA) Mission and Bylaws

As you may remember, at the end of last school year the ANCS Governing Board passed a resolution to evaluate the ANCS PTCA and  then formed a task force.  The PTCA Task Force met multiple times from August to December.  The taskforce of parents, teachers, and staff members gathered perspectives from all members of the School Family via a survey, interviews, and listening circles in order craft recommendations for a renewed PTCA mission and vision.  The recommendations were submitted to the board in November of 2023. In the months since, the PTCA Bylaws were rewritten to reflect its new mission:

The mission of the ANCS PTCA is to build community and foster inclusivity within the ANCS school family. The ANCS PTCA will welcome new families with knowledge and resources, coordinate and promote parent, caregiver, teacher/staff, and community engagement activities, and support teachers through various teacher appreciation activities.

While parents and caregivers always play an integral role in the School Family, the task force evaluation shed light on the fact that the PTCA had taken on many duties and roles that ANCS now has the staff capacity to fulfill. The activities and initiatives of the PTCA will be more streamlined and will be led by an Advisory Council of teachers, staff, and community members that will also serve to advise the Executive Director. The PTCA will seek co-presidents to lead this council, one a staff member or teacher and one a parent or caregiver.  Additional changes to the PTCA include an open, due-free membership structure and the addition of a Welcome Committee and Affinity and Resource Groups.

If you are interested in getting involved in PTCA Advisory Council or chairing or sitting on a committee during the 2024-25 school year, there are two upcoming information sessions via Zoom:
