2015 CCRPI scores: what’s changed and what’s still the same

Today the Georgia Department of Education released College and Career Readiness Performance Indicator (CCRPI) scores for the 2014-15 school year (that’s right–last school year).  Below is a message I sent out to our ANCS school community earlier today about our CCRPI scores.

Dear ANCS School Community:

Today the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) released last school year’s “College and Career Readiness Performance Indicators” (CCRPI) scores for all public schools in Georgia.  Here is a quick look at what you should know about 2015 CCRPI scores in general and for ANCS in particular:

What should I know about 2015 CCRPI scores?

  • Beginning in 2013, GaDOE started new “school improvement, accountability, and communication platform”: College & Career Readiness and Performance Index (CCRPI)
  • CCRPI used to report performance across range of measures for all Georgia public schools serving students in grades K-12
  • All Georgia public schools given a CCRPI score on 100-point scale based on data from measures from prior school year (i.e. 2015 score based on 2014-15 school year data)
  • 2015 CCRPI scores include results from new Georgia Milestones tests given for first time last year and and formula for calculating scores changed in 2015, making comparisons to prior years difficult
  • Many more details about CCRPI can be found on GaDOE website

What should I know about ANCS’s 2015 CCRPI scores?

  • For 2015, the CCRPI score for the ANCS elementary campus was 87.1.  At this time, the score for the middle campus it is listed as 69.  However, there were several errors in data submitted from Atlanta Public Schools to GaDOE that was used to calculate the CCRPI score for the middle campus and APS has appealed to GaDOE on our behalf to correct those errors so that we may have an accurate CCRPI score for the middle campus as the errors are presently costing the school several points.  We expect at some point in the near future our score will be corrected.
  • Each charter school in Georgia must meet or exceed the average CCRPI score for its local district and the state.  ANCS has met this goal each year since CCRPI scores were first calculated, and for 2015, we have met this goal for the elementary campus, with our score of 87.1 higher than the APS average for elementary schools (67.9) and the state average for elementary schools (76).  (Until our middle campus score is corrected, we cannot make a final comparison of that score, though we project that our corrected score will meet that goal.)
  • I will present a more comprehensive report on our 2015 CCRPI scores at the May 17 ANCS board meeting

Although we recognize that we must comply with the requirements of CCRPI and strive to achieve the CCRPI-related goals in our charter contract, we continue to have concerns about the system and the way CCRPI scores are used–concerns I highlighted in one of my blog posts a few years ago when CCRPI was first introduced.  With many of these same concerns shared by Georgia’s new state schools superintendent, I am hopeful that meaningful changes to CCRPI may soon come.

If you have any questions regarding CCRPI, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,

Matt Underwood
