All throughout the month of February at ANCS, we are in the process of helping families interested in enrolling their students at ANCS better get to know our school. As a school of choice, it is important for families considering ANCS for their students to understand the unique elements of our educational program and our approach to teaching and learning as compared to their neighborhood school or other schools they may be exploring. So if you know of families thinking about ANCS for their students, please share this post with them!
Here are a few ways you can gain a sense of who we are and what we do at ANCS:
- Learn about our mission, vision, and values: This one short page on our website captures the core of what drives ANCS as a school, guiding our decisions from setting school policies to what students learn in their classes.
- Read our charter and strategic plan: The charter agreement we have with the Atlanta Public Schools and the Georgia Department of Education establishes the baseline goals we have as a charter school. Our strategic plan outlines our more aspirational goals for moving beyond just the terms of our charter to push us towards our vision of what ANCS can become.
- Watch a quick video: In just over 5 minutes, this video lets you hear from teachers, parents, and students as they show you what makes ANCS different.
- Attend an information session: Each of our campuses hosts multiple information sessions for parents and guardians to see our school and get the opportunity to talk directly with teachers, parents, and others associated with ANCS.
- Talk with ANCS parents: Odds are that if you are applying to ANCS, you likely know the parent or guardian of one of our current students. If so, talk with them about their experiences with the school. While there is a proliferation of school rating/review websites out there, I find that most of them don’t really capture the nuances of any school the way talking with current parents and visiting the school do.
If all of that isn’t enough to start you down the path of getting to know our school, you can also read this blog post I wrote a few years ago where I tried to explain ANCS to prospective families.
I hope all of these resources are helpful to you in making an informed choice about whether to enroll your student at ANCS in the coming school year. If you do decide to apply, you can do so right here on our website.
