Desiree Bennett

6th/7th Grade Mathematics ESS Teacher

Originally from the great city of Chicago, Desireé Bennett completed her undergraduate studies at Clark Atlanta University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She received her teacher certification through University of Georgia, and obtained an ESOL endorsement and two Master’s degrees from Georgia State University in Urban Teacher Leadership and in Reading, Language and Literacy. She says, “Working with middle schoolers has been an incredible journey. This developmental period is such a special time, because our young scholars are just beginning to make sense of the world in their own way, and being part of that process has been really rewarding. Whether it’s in Math or Language and Literature, it’s amazing to see a student build the confidence to meet challenges in ways they never thought they could.”

Before coming to ANCS, Desireé taught at the elementary level for eight years. Prior to that, she taught preschool for three years, and taught her two daughters at home for as long as she can remember. She worked as a manager for a local day spa before her first daughter was born, teaching clients about the benefits of holistic healthcare. She also worked at Emory’s School of Public Health, teaching a wellness curriculum in a community outreach program called Go Girls!

Desireé loves to learn about other cultures, and now that her two daughters are off to college, she’s looking forward to traveling to these far off places. She loves the water, is a dance enthusiast and has an appreciation for many different genres of music (although Soul House, Afrobeat and Reggae are some of her favorite styles). Desireé is also a proud cat mom!
