Updates to the Fall MAP Test

We want to make you aware of a few changes to the MAP test your student took this fall. Most students likely didn’t notice these updates during testing, but they may be helpful for you to know as you review their scores.

  • EISA Algorithm (Enhanced Item-Selection Algorithm): The new algorithm prioritizes grade-level questions. In the past, questions were selected based solely on difficulty. This change ensures that test content is more closely aligned with what students are learning in their grade.
  • Updated Norms: Students’ RIT scores are still measured the same way, but the percentile rankings (norms) have been updated. The previous set of norms was collected before the pandemic; the new set reflects student performance from the past two school years using the EISA test.
  • New Reading Domains: Reading domains for grades 2–8 have been updated to match new state ELA standards. This affects both the content and how results are reported. The new domains are:
    • Texts: Context, Structures, Style
    • Texts: Genre Techniques and Elements
    • Language: Vocabulary
