Letter from MC Principal

Hello MC families,

I hope that you all enjoyed the winter break. It was great to see all of your students back in the building on Wednesday, and the kids were happy to see their friends and teachers.

During the month of January, one of our key areas of focus is service. On Monday, January 15th, the school will be closed for our observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service. We encourage all of our students and families to use this as a ‘day on,’ to be of service in the community.

As 6th and 7th grade students progress toward the Community Project in 8th grade, we are preparing them in Advisory by helping them build some of the skills they will need. 8th graders have one Advisory day per week (every Tuesday) dedicated to the Community Project, and on those Tuesdays, our 6th and 7th graders are learning research, planning, and communication skills. We are having an extended Advisory service day for 6th and 7th grade (not 8th grade, because they are doing the Community Project) on the afternoon of January 19th. Sixth and seventh grade Advisories will be working with service organizations that afternoon, and the students are doing some of the research and planning for this day. Look for information from your 6th and 7th grade Advisors via email about what your student’s Advisory group is planning to do.

Finally, on February 7th, 2024, 8th grade students will be taking the NAEP test. The NAEP test is a standardized test with math and reading sections that is given nationally to see how students across the country are doing. Typically, we have a randomized subset of students who take the test, and the remaining students are provided with supplemental work to do that day. You can learn more about the NAEP test in this letter.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Kind regards,

Mark
